Safe tanning

Q. I'm going on my honeymoon in the summer and am looking forward to wearing my bikini on the beach. The problem is, I have very fair skin and would like to get a tan prior to the trip. Is it safe for me to use a sunbed?

A. Claire Nicole says: As a skincare therapist, I strongly disagree with anyone using sunbeds for several reasons. Sunbeds speed up the ageing process by breaking down the elastin and collagen that keep the complexion supple and wrinkle-free.
Sunbeds can also bring out pigmentation in some people, resulting in brown blotches on the face and body. Also, overuse of sunbeds could make some people susceptible to skin cancer.
My advice is to have a professionally applied sun-free tan the day before you go away. Although spray tanning booths are quick and easy, this can leave you with an uneven tan and often with orange feet and palms. I advocate the old-fashioned method of tanning, which starts with a full body exfoliation, as this will help the tan last longer. Next, have a tanning lotion such as St Tropez applied evenly over your body while you relax. This results in a beautifully even, natural looking tan that will last for up to seven days.
While on holiday, you can build a natural safe tan by protecting your skin with Dermalogica Daylight Defence System. Dermalogica sun protection products are alcohol and perfume free, so they won't aggravate the skin while in the sun and they come in various types to suit all skin types. Visit www.beautifullook.co.uk to take advantage of 25 per cent off Dermalogica products.

Moisturising foundation

Q. My skin is dry and flaky and I'm worried about how my foundation will look on my wedding day. What can I do?

A. Claire Nicole says: If you're really concerned, go and see a skincare therapist for some advice. Make sure you are using the
right cleansers for your skin type and exfoliate regularly too. I recommend Dermalogica products such as Gentle Cream Exfoliant and Essential Cleansing Solution for dry skin.
When it comes to foundation, choose one that is moisturising and finish with
just a little amount of face powder. You can buy Dermalogica products from
www.charlottesboutique.co.uk, which gives up to 25 per cent off the retail price and delivers the products to your door. For something as important as your wedding day, it's worth booking a professional make-up artist.
